What is involved in a Microsoft Windows re-installation?
A windows re-installation is great way to get your computer running back to way it was when your first purchased it.
During this process the hard drive will be reformatted. When a hard drive is reformatted all data is erased from the hard drive. For this reason we recommend that the customer backup all your documents, pictures, music, videos, emails, favorites, etc. If you do not know how to do this, we can backup all data for you. We cannot backup any of your programs. For example: Microsoft Office, Internet Security Suite, Games, Accounting Software. So, it is important that you have the discs to reinstall all your programs, able to download the programs from the internet, and/or willing to buy new programs. It is also important make sure that your internet, email, or other important settings are recorded, or backed up.
Once the hard drive has been reformatted then Microsoft Windows will be installed on to the drive. The Windows operating system that will be installed is the one that the customer has a valid license for. The license is usually located on the outside of a computer case or on the bottom of a laptop. A majority of the time we can use our re-installation disk to install Windows, but if the customer can supply the factory windows re-installation disk, that came with the computer, that will help the process go more quickly and smoothly. After Windows is installed then we make sure to install all updates, patches, service packs, and hardware drivers. This ensures that the computer is running to its full potential, and everything is working properly.
From this point the computer is ready to use. Now the software, data, and settings can be reloaded into the computer.
